Scholarship Information & Forms

Applications Instructions & Deadline

Local 836 offers a $750 scholarship to ten (10) qualifying high school seniors and a $750 scholarship to two (2) students who have completed their first year of post high school study and are continuing their education at college or other school.

Children who are dependents of CSEA Local 836 members or agency fee payers are eligible to apply for the scholarships.

In order to be considered for the scholarships, members must:

  1. Have their child submit the completed application form. The form must contain all information requested. Incomplete applications will not be considered. Please note that there are two different forms - one form is for a graduating senior and the other form is for continuing education (post high school).

  2. The completed application must be mailed to the address provided on the application and postmarked no later than April 15 of the current year. Applications postmarked later than April 15 will not be considered.

  3. The verification seal from the student's high school guidance department or registrar must accompany the application.

How members can obtain applications:

  • By e-mailing the Secretary to request a form be mailed to you (see the home page for contact info).

  • By calling the Local 836 office at (845) 343-0172 and leaving their name, address, and phone number on the voicemail.

  • From your Union President.

CSEA Local 1000 AFSCME, AFL-CIO College Scholarships

  • 18 Irving Flaumenbaum Memorial Scholarships - Three $1,000 scholarships in each of CSEA's six regions

  • JLT Award in Memory of Charles Foster - One $2,500 award to a high school student entering the SUNY System

  • MET Life Award in Memory of Joseph D. Lochner - One $2,500 award NOT limited to a high school student entering the SUNY System


CSEA Region 3 Scholarships

The Region 3 Scholarship Committee is pleased to announce that it will award three $500 scholarships this year to graduating high school seniors - two from Region 3 and one from Region 3 President, Diane Hewitt.

In addition, the Region 3 Community Action Committee is sponsoring two $500 scholarships.

Applicants must be children of Region 3 CSEA members who intend to continue their education in college or trade school. Criteria for the Region 3 and Diane Hewitt Scholarships will be based on financial need, academic standing and community involvement. Applicatons will be scored on a point basis and eligible candidates will be placed in a lottery.

The deadline to submit applications is May 14th.
